Design is Open

Video series for the Open University

The Open University has launched a new Bachelor of Design (BDes) qualification, Designing for People, Places and Planet. In collaboration with Open University academics Theo Zamenopoulos and Katerina Alexiou from the School of Engineering and Innovation, we created a video series designed to raise awareness and stimulate discussions around emerging forms of design work, and design can help address our largest societal challenges. Designers are no longer simply producing a product, or solving a problem they contribute to systemic impacts and outcomes, with people, places and planet at the heart of design-thinking. It’s a change-making practice that can tackle complex ecological, environmental and societal challenges.

The video series hears from Joanna Choukeir, Director of Design and Innovate at The RSA, Daisy Carter, Head of Strategic Programming at The RSA, and Rachel Bronstein, Senior Skills Manager and Design Council. A combined video can be found below, whilst the Design is Open playlist has fuller in-depth interviews and case-studies with each design professional.
