Mary Hunt - Canning Town Old Library

Mary Hunt revisits the library she lived in during the 60s

As a child in the 60s, Mary lived in Canning Town Library with her grandparents, who were caretakers of the building. Here she re-visits the building and reminisces of her time playing there, and her excitement at the idea of the building being bought back into community use. The interview with Mary was conducted by Jan Cullen and featured photography is from Heather McDonough.

Canning Town Library is currently part of an ambitious regenerative heritage project to turn the Grade II Listed building into a new community asset for Newham residents; it will hold the majority of Newham's heritage collection, as well as a digital media suite, teaching and learning spaces, a cafe and new workspaces.
