Clowns Without Borders

Supporting children affected by war, conflict and natural disaster through play and laughter

Clowns Without Borders believe that every child should have the right to laughter and play. Where children have been impacted by conflict, violence or natural disasters, often this vital need goes unmet and children's emotional wellbeing suffers significantly. Enter the clowns. CWB artists are a group of highly skilled professionals, working in trauma informed ways to facilitate laughter, joy and play to make the world a more hopeful and peaceful place.

CWB clowns can be found in crisis zones, areas of natural disaster, prisons and hospitals working with whole communities to create safe and joyful spaces, whilst often delivering important hygiene and safety messages in accessible ways.

Two films were produced for Clowns Without Borders, one documenting the impact of Project Laughter, which worked with those impacted by the Russia / Ukraine conflict. CWB partnered with Plan International on this project, as discussed by their Global Humanitarian Director Dr Unni Krishnan. The second film provides an insight into what goes into the training of the artists that work with communities around the globe.
